William Dubas
William Dubas, 85, of Roseland, a former East Orange businessman, died Jan. 17 at home. Born in Newark, Mr. Dubas lived in Irvington before he moved to Roseland in 1973. He served on the destroyer escort USS Canfield during World War II. Mr. Dubas was the owner and operator of Ampere Automotive in East Orange until he retired eight years ago. Mr. Dubas is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dena; two sons, Joseph and Robert, and three grandchildren.

Dora Mae Lowe
Dora Mae Lowe, 82, died Jan. 13 in East Orange General Hospital. Born in Vidalia, Ga., and raised in St. Petersburg, Fla., Ms. Lowe moved to Newark and then East Orange in 1970. She was a 40-year resident of East Orange and was affectionately known to many as “Penny” or “Mama Lowe.” Ms. Lowe leaves behind her daughters, Paula, Vanessa, Deborah, Cheryl, Carol Lowe-Townsend, and Tanya Dawkins; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Robert N. Pope
Robert N. Pope, 78, of East Orange died Jan. 16. Mr. Pope is survived by three nephews, a niece and other relatives and friends.

Laura P. Walton
Laura P. Walton, 95, of East Orange died Jan. 16 in the White House Nursing Home, Orange. She is survived by her children, the Rev. Joseph Walton, Rosetta Miles, Yoland Walton, Al-Bar Shabazz, Robert, Houston and Michael Walton; siblings, Benny Henry Jr., Pecola, Emmie, Ruth, Mabel, Annie, Ola Mae, Doris and Sonny; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Jo-Ann Dover-Harris
Jo-Ann Dover-Harris of East Orange died Jan. 17. Mrs. Dover-Harris was born and raised in the Oranges. She graduated from Clarke University, Worcester, Mass., and was a social worker for the commonwealth of Massachusetts before she retired in 2008. Mrs. Dover-Harris is survived by her son, Rhodney Dover; father and stepmother, Eugene and Leah Summons; a brother, Tau Hied Aldul Budee, and one grandchild.

Delores A. Foster
Jo-Ann Dover-Harris of East Orange died Jan. 17. Delores A. Foster, 66, of East Orange died Jan. 18. Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband, William; two sons, Carl Foster-Bean and William; her siblings, Rosa Allen, Carrie Heath, Alma, Milton, Robert and Franklin Hobbs, and three grandchildren.

Henry S. Hardwick
Henry S. Hardwick, 86, of East Orange died Jan. 21. Mr. Hardwick worked as a butcher and partner in the 303 Meat Market on 16th Avenue in Newark for more than 40 years. Mr. Hardwick is survived by his wife, Franscena, and his children, Cherry Ferguson, Cynthia Vaughn, Gwendolyn V. Jenkins, Tammy Hardwick-Mack, Jeane Townsend, Billy Jerome, Wally and Steven T. Hardwick.

Matthew White
Matthew White, 69, formerly of East Orange, died Jan. 15 in North Carolina. Mr. White was a graduate of Vineland High School, Cumberland County, where he was a four-sport varsity athlete. He attended New York University on a full athletic scholarship, after which he coached wrestling on many levels including at the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Newark and Hillside, West Side High School, Essex County College and an AAU wrestling team in northern New Jersey. Mr. White worked for the state Department of Transportation for more than 20 years, was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Order and was affiliated with Doric No. 25 of Mizpah. Mr. White is survived by his son, Matthew Jr.; his siblings, Clinton, Samuel, Morris Sr., Mark and Robert White Jr., Gladys Howell, Olivet K. White, and Barbara McGlocklin, and three grandchildren.
