East Orange Record Officials want to spread 2-1-1 message

Most residents know about the 9-1-1 telephone number for emergencies or the 4-1-1 number for directory information.
But not many people know about the 2-1-1 phone number. Like its numerical counterparts, 2-1-1 is free as it gives users access to the federal and state social-services safety net.

East Orange Record Checklist attracts concern

The mayors of Orange and East Orange expressed frustration at a checklist the governor is asking municipal officials to complete, a form which may affect the amount of state aid the cities could receive.

East Orange Record School year opens in face of changes

The school year for East Orange’s public schools opened Tuesday with several changes.
In addition to the individual changes students encountered when they entered their schools on Tuesday, several actions have occurred within the school district.

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-8), the author of the Concussion Treatment and Care Tool (ConTACT) act, addressed student-athletes, coaches and athletic trainers at the Super Essex Conference Sportsmanship Summit at Bloomfield High School on Aug. 26, and spoke about protecting student-athletes from the dangers of sports-related concussions.

East Orange Record Dash: State DOE miscue hurt all schools

An East Orange charter school director said state education officials must work to avoid the mistakes which caused New Jersey to miss out on up to $400 million in federal funds.

East Orange Record Park will fill for ‘Jam’

Summer fun is in progress as, last weekend, the city had its annual citywide picnic inside Elmwood Park. Come this weekend, residents of the 3rd and 4th wards will be treated to the 2010 Summer Jam Concert.

High School Sports EOCHS athletic programs grapple with loss of coaches

School districts throughout the state have felt the sting of decreased state aid, particularly for athletic departments.
For the 2010-2011 school year, East Orange Campus High School athletic director Abdul Hasson said a total of 13 coaching positions have been eliminated as a result of lowered aid.
Those positions came from programs with four or more coaches. Boys’ soccer and cross-country did not see any loss of coaches, said Hassan.
