The 16th-seeded East Orange Campus High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated 29th-seeded Glen Ridge and 17th-seeded Caldwell in the first and second preliminary rounds of the Essex County Tournament.
Junior guard Jahreal Cadogan scored 15 points, senior forward Yonnick Bob had 13 points and sophomore forward Tayshaun Douglas added 12 points in the 79-29 home win over Glen Ridge last Saturday Jan. 28. Sophomore guard Xavier Harney had eight points, and senior forward Rasul Douglas and junior center Kenneth Grant each had six points.
Grant scored 18 points and Bob had 14 points in the 66-32 home win over Caldwell this past Monday Jan. 30. The Jaguars extended their winnng streak to five games and improved to 6-9.
The Jaguars will visit top-seeded Seton Hall Prep in the round of 16 this Saturday Feb. 4 in West Orange.
Grant scored 20 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked five shots and senior forward Donald Denasto had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Jaguars to a 48-42 home win over Shabazz on Jan. 26.
The Jaguars trailed 35-34, but outscored Shabazz, 14-7, in the fourth quarter to win it.
Rasul Douglas had six points, six rebounds and five assists and Bob also had six points in the win.
