Khalid Muhammed scored 30 points and added 13 rebounds and three steals and fellow senior guard Adam Maduro had 17 points and 12 rebounds to power the 14th-seeded Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 79-55 win over No. 31 seed West Side in the first round preliminary of the Essex County Tournament last Saturday Jan. 28 at OHS.
Senior guard Luis Williams had six points, senior forward Ramon Mustapha had five points, senior guard Cornelius Wilson and Eli Edouard each had four points and junior guard Tevon Bennett had three points for the Tornadoes, who improved to 9-8. OHS will host No. 19 seed West Orange in the second round preliminary on Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
The winner will visit No. 3 seed Bloomfield in the round of 16 on Saturday Feb. 4.
Muhammed led all scorers with 23 points and Maduro had 15 points to lead the Tornadoes to a 66-61 home win over Millburn on Jan. 24.
Williams had 11 points and  Wilson added nine points for the Tornadoes.
Maduro had 14 points and Williams added 12 points in the 70-55 loss to Newark Tech on Jan. 26. Muhammed and Wilson each had nine points for the Tornadoes.
