The Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team came up short in its rematch with Bloomfield.
After losing to Bloomfield in a one-point heartbreaker in Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division play, the 14th-seeded Tornadoes lost Saturday Feb. 4 to the Bengals, 73-61, in the round of 16 of the Essex County Tournament in Bloomfield.
Adam Maduro scored 18 points, Khalid Muhammed had 15 points and Cornelius Wilson added 11 points for Orange, which dropped to 10-10. The Tornadoes lost at Bloomfield, 61-60, on Jan. 31.
Two days later, Orange defeated West Orange in the tournament’s second preliminary round. Maduro scored 27 points and Khalid Muhammed had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Wilson also had nine points for Orange, which outscored West Orange, 14-8, in the second quarter to take a 30-21 halftime lead. The Tornadoes maintained control in the second half, outscoring West Orange, 21-16, in the fourth quarter.
In the first preliminary round in Jan. 28, the Tornadoes defeated West Side, 79-55.
